Preserving rather than demolishing is often both a strategic and financially sound decision. Older buildings frequently contain qualities that are difficult to replicate: robust materials, generous ceiling heights, natural daylight, and spatial richness. The development of Fjordbyen in Lier and Drammen is one of the largest ongoing urban development projects in Norway. LINK Arkitektur developed the urban concept and masterplan for the area. The project aims to become an international benchmark for sustainable urban development. Fjordbyen will be attractive, urban, and sustainable: a place where people, the fjord, and the future meet.
