ACE Powerhouse
An international hub for future energy solutions
Skellefteå's new landmark is poised to become a hub for research, education, and innovation in electrification, as well as a base for the Arctic Center of Energy (ACE). This competence center brings together academia, business, and the public sector to strengthen the supply of skills and research within the future energy system.
Strategically located in Skellefteå and developed in close collaboration with PEAB, the project combines high-tech research infrastructure with flexible learning environments. It enables new partnerships among academia, industry, and the public sector, thereby strengthening Sweden’s position in the global energy transition.
ACE is constructed with a low-carbon timber structure and a bold reuse and upcycling strategy. Materials such as interior doors, sanitary fixtures, handrails and façade components are recovered from nearby buildings scheduled for demolition and reintegrated into a new architectural expression. These choices not only reduce emissions but also give the building a strong material presence, tactile richness and a narrative connection to its context.
