Quarter 8

Quarter 8 is being developed as a cohesive and forward-looking urban district in the heart of downtown Lillestrøm. With direct connections to Torvet and Storgata, the project will strengthen links between the city’s most important public spaces and contribute to increased activity throughout the year.

The development includes new homes, offices, a hotel, retail spaces, and restaurants, with active ground-floor uses that create vitality and activity in the public realm. At the same time, Torvet and the surrounding streets will be upgraded with new public spaces, outdoor dining areas, and meeting places.

Sustainable Urban Development at a Public Transport Hub

Located just a few minutes’ walk from Lillestrøm Station, Quarter 8 is an example of sustainable urban densification at one of Norway’s most important public transport hubs. The area is being transformed from underutilized land into a compact and vibrant urban quarter with approximately 170 homes and around 400 workplaces.

A key element of the project is the combination of modern urban development with respect for local identity. The historic Telegrafgården building will be preserved as an integrated part of the new quarter, maintaining important cultural heritage values within the cityscape.

Final Approval Granted

The Lillestrøm Municipal Council adopted the detailed zoning plan for Quarter 8 and Torvet, with an unresolved objection, on 11 June 2025. The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development did not uphold the objection and approved the detailed zoning plan for Quarter 8 and Torvet on 1 June 2026.

Among other considerations, the Ministry emphasized the project’s contribution to sustainable urban densification and efficient land use in close proximity to public transportation.
