Undeveloped car park becomes a living part of the city
Skruven quarter is an exploitation proposal we presented together with Balticgruppen AB. Here we have developed a block that contributes to a living, secure and attractive Umeå.
A living street plan
Our concept is a flexible, modular construction that facilitates change over time, where the design clearly indicates a sustainable profile and climate-smart solutions. The block makes it easy for the city’s residents to be active, with a diversity of functions for living, work, relaxation and commerce. The street plan is an important part of this, and contains functions to enhance the impression of an inviting, living and secure area.
Housing combined with commerce
Skruven quarter will become a natural part of the fabric of Umeå, but with its own character and clear identity. We have recommended that the block contains several types of flat, to some extent adaptable in terms of size. It should be possible for the homes to be combined with business premises, as the opportunity to live and work in a single building creates added value and attracts new residents.
Our proposal is the result of a Nordic collaboration between our offices in Umeå and Bergen.
