New hosptal building in Malmö

Child and adult psychiatry, habilitation and palliative care in the heart of Malmö

In Malmö, Region Skåne is developing facilities for child and adult psychiatry, habilitation services, specialised palliative care, and advanced home-based medical care.

LINK Arkitektur has led a general consultancy assignment covering both healthcare facility development and urban planning. In collaboration with Wingårdhs and Sydväst, we have assessed the requirements for facilities and operations—encompassing both healthcare buildings and urban planning—to address the region’s current and future needs. The process involved close cooperation between representatives from the healthcare services, the architectural team, technical specialists, the city, and the client organisation.

The team evaluated the southern hospital precinct as a potential site and compiled their findings into a program document. Concurrently, they are exploring the feasibility of developing new healthcare facilities within the northern hospital precinct. The results of this assessment will subsequently be analysed and reviewed by the political bodies of Region Skåne.

Integrating psychiatric services into central Malmö is a significant and vital undertaking, where social interaction is critical to ensuring safe, effective operations. The architectural team has approached this assignment with a strong commitment to designing high-quality care environments while fostering a positive relationship between the architecture and the city.

The objective is to complete the facilities and have them ready for use by the mid-2030s.
