Ringve Muzeum
Takes on the form of a musical instrument
Norway's national museum of music is a historic farm located on a hill on the Lade Peninsula near Trondheim, with a great view of the cultural landscape and the fjord.
The museum has been upgraded with a new extension, and existing buildings have been rebuilt and rehabilitated. The extension is located on the outside of the yard and is a BlackBox for changing exhibitions. The extension is given a shape and an expression inspired by the resonant boxes of musical instruments.
From the media library, there is a great view of the botanical garden that surrounds the facility. The permanent exhibitions are adapted to a new continuous walk through the museum, which has been given a new entrance with a reception, shop, and dining area. The museum's banquet hall has also been upgraded. It has been a goal to achieve good, environmentally friendly solutions, with low energy consumption. The new part of the museum is Norway's first museum building to meet the requirements for passive houses. A new elevator provides good access to the museum's three floors.
Existing buildings are located around a closed yard and are from the period 1740 to 1952. The buildings in the facility are classified (Wesselbygget is listed). Ringve Museum has national responsibility for the dissemination of music and musical instruments.
