The project is part of the revitalization of the former psychiatric hospital, where the old patient wings have been demolished to make way for three new residential wings. The care home merges with the existing buildings, which now provide warm and inviting common areas, wellness facilities, administration spaces, and a modern industrial kitchen.
Flexibility for the residents
The home has been designed to meet the diverse needs of residents without separating those with somatic illnesses from those living with dementia. The four residential units, each housing between 13 and 20 apartments, are carefully placed to offer both privacy and proximity to shared facilities such as dining and living rooms. The atmosphere is homely and safe, with modern welfare technology supporting independence. For example, terrace doors are equipped with automatic sensors, allowing wheelchair users to move easily between private and shared spaces.
Close to nature and daylight
Located in the beautiful landscape north of Haderslev Dam, the care home is designed to bring the surroundings into daily life for its residents. The three residential wings are positioned to ensure that all apartments enjoy views of both water and countryside, allowing residents to stay connected to life around them. The rooms are bright and airy, with large windows letting in abundant natural light. Corridors feature small alcoves that provide quiet spaces for rest and reflection, while also opening toward views of the Danish meadow landscape.
A home for both residents and the local community
An important part of the project has been to create an environment that also engages the local community. The ambition is to establish an attractive senior community that includes residents from the surrounding area, offers meaningful day programs, and fosters collaboration with kindergartens. This ensures that both older adults and children feel welcome and build connections across generations.
The outdoor areas around the home are designed to provide varied experiences. Residents and visitors can stroll through the lush “Courtyard Garden”, filled with fruit trees, berry bushes, and fragrant flowers. The paths are divided into small resting zones, offering a sense of exploration and movement. In addition, the “Nature Garden” blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, where meadow grass and wild plants invite biodiversity to flourish.
