Brf Industrial Corner
An industrial area is transformed into a living neighbourhood
An old industrial area has been transformed into a living urban district with a clear identity. Several new housing blocks are being built in a densification of the area, and we designed one of them.
By developing the Sorgenfri area, the central and eastern parts of Malmo are connected. The City of Malmo’s goal is for the district to become a model for sustainable urban development, which has shaped the conditions for the new residential building in the Grytan area. Great importance has therefore been placed on ensuring that the building brings the street space to life and on creating conditions for residents to make sustainable lifestyle choices.
Live-work units create a living street space
The building consists of around 50 flats, but also one set of commercial premises and 10 live-work units on the ground floor. The live-work units, a form of accommodation that combines housing and business premises, are intended to create activity and bring the street space to life. Here, small business owners have the opportunity to establish themselves with offices, cafés, shops or gyms, for example. The live-work units have large glass windows and doors onto the street and are connected by an internal staircase to the flat above.
