Bålsta travel centre

The new travel centre serves as a central hub and meeting place for both travellers and residents in the area, offering smooth connections to bus and train services. The building functions as an entrance to the urban area, with a clear connection to the centre and strong integration with future residential neighbourhoods. Together with a park and a square, a flexible and vibrant area is created, where social gatherings are in focus, providing a safe and accessible space where various functions intersect. The travel centre is situated on a gentle slope, with an entrance floor at the same level as the square surface to the south. The square creates a new urban space that connects the central parts of Bålsta. It welcomes both travellers and visitors, while also serving as a natural gathering point for residents in Håbo municipality.

The travel centre has two floors, with the upper floor comprising technical areas and a break room for taxi drivers. The lower floor features a spacious and open public area, complete with a café, kiosk, waiting hall, and toilets. The lower floor also features service facilities for staff in the café, as well as premises for UL staff, including offices/changing rooms/break rooms for taxis.

The brick consists of red, recycled facade brick in Swedish format, with lime mortar joints. With recycled stone, the brick differs in appearance, surface texture, and colour, and its uneven and sharp edges give it a rustic feel. The brick facade material also recurs to a large extent on the interior wall surfaces. The use of recycled brick has required extraordinary craftsmanship. Each brick, unique in its structure and colour, has been selected row by row for the walls to ensure that the facade has an even and aesthetically pleasing structure.
