Norrtälje's new family-friendly neighborhood
Övre Bryggårdsgärdet is a diverse district for families looking for good connections, services, and access to green areas. The new detailed plan proposes apartment buildings and townhouses, along with businesses, squares, city streets, safe school routes, and playful courtyard streets. We have assisted the municipality with project and development proposals for six of the seven blocks in the new area.
The neighbourhood's small scale and variety will attract families, making freedom of movement and security vital. In such urban environments, both children and adults usually thrive. Another key aspect of creating the diverse urban district being sought is a mix of housing types, sizes, and tenure forms.
Buildings will range from 3–5 floors, and entrances will be placed along the streets to create clear urban spaces. All residential neighbourhoods will have green courtyards, and the courtyard streets will be almost car-free, lush, and designed for pedestrians. Existing streets will also be rebuilt to add more greenery and improve accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. The sustainability ambitions include planning green areas, climate-focused construction, and a structure that provides good conditions for a sustainable lifestyle for residents.
The new detailed plan is expected to be adopted in 2027.
