Kyrksten skola
A sustainable meeting place and a greenhouse for the next generation
We won the architectural competition for a new school in Kyrksten with a proposal that focused on sustainability, modern education and design. A major investment was made to retain the municipality’s place as one of the best in the country for schooling.
Storfors is one of the top school municipalities, and it held an architectural competition to design a new preschool, school and sports hall for 150 children. The aim was for the new school to increase the attractiveness of the area, and, in combination with future housing development, to bring in new residents. There were 32 entries in total, and three proposals made it to the final round, but we were chosen as the winner.
This will be a building for the whole of society, from versatile learning environments for both small and large, to facilities for associations, sports teams and study circles. It will become an asset and a sustainable meeting place – a greenhouse for the next generation.
Sustainability, education and design
Our proposal took a holistic approach, with synergies between design, function, education, sustainability and implementation. Based on the site’s unique properties and through the visionary programme of Storfors Municipality, the proposal possesses the highest architectonic quality in symbiosis with cost-effective and clearly realisable solutions.
