Sluppen

Urban development project in the heart of the city.

An urban space study to define transformation opportunities at Sluppen in Trondheim, to form a new sustainable district.

New homes and office buildings

The proposal emphasized facilitating the establishment of both small and large businesses, varied housing, and social meeting places - to create a district that was alive at all hours of the day. Solar energy solutions, including combined noise protection, would be a visible communication of the district as a gateway to a progressive city for the development of environmental technology, while the measures to create an inclusive and vibrant environment would ensure the framework for a socially sustainable urban life.

Traffic issues: public transport hub

The Sluppen junction connects the main access road and the E6 to the city center. Today, the area is characterized by traffic, large parking areas, office buildings, and space-consuming industries. The establishment of a public transport hub as the center of a diverse and attractive district was the starting point for the task that was to result in visual images for 2020, 2030 and 2050.

Important for the solution was to find a way to quickly establish a central public transport hub without major investments, as well as to create sheltered and attractive residential areas inside Sluppen without being dependent on first laying the E6 in a culvert. In this way, a desired urban development could start without having to wait for heavy and resource-intensive infrastructure measures.
