Quality Hotel Waterfront
The hotel is re-established in an area close to the town centre in the coastal town of Ålesund.
The hotel lies partly in the existing listed warehouse and Jugend building from the reconstruction of the city after the major fire of 1904. The work was carried out in close collaboration with the County Conservator in connection with the development of the zoning plan and in order to find good solutions for listed buildings, based on conservation and the urban design plan. The buildings are divided into buildings with recessed stairwells. There are four wings to the south, each with a different personality, stretching to the sea and they have gained greater room for manoeuvre. The hotel satisfies Class B in the energy labelling system, even though half the hotel is located in the old listed building, without additional insulation of the façade. To achieve this, emphasis was placed on achieving extra airtightness in the building structure and the technical facilities.
The interior of the hotel's three parts, Pakkhuset, the Jugend house and the new building form a stylistic whole. Each part has nevertheless retained its distinctiveness by the use of different colours and materials. The Jugend house is warm and delicate. The Pakkhuset is coarser, with a focus on structural details such as beams. The new building is stringently designed with a bold use of colour. The hotel's two suites are exclusively designed. The gas fireplace in the lobby, the bar counter and other fixed fittings are specially designed for the project. There is artistic decoration in all the hotel rooms and in the lobby.
