Health and Rehabilitation building, Västerås Central Hospital
Inquest and planning of a new health and pool building.
The assignment started with a study to find an alternative design for new wards. With the programs of the different wards as base we investigated the possibilities to integrate the existing baths at the ground level of the new building. In addition to wards the building encloses rehabilitation, gyms, pools, changing rooms and technical equipment. Our solution was to let slender but effective buildings link to the existing hospital, the gables designed to reduce the volumes of the new wing.
The new wing includes 6 wards with 32 single bed rooms organised for hospital teams responsible for 8 patients each. Later when the old hospital will be refurbished every floor will have cohesive ward units for 48 patients.
