Bruparken

Bruparken is an activity park built under the new motorway bridge for the E18 in Drammen.

The intention of locating the activities in the park has been to make what was originally an untidy, unused into something positive and joyful for the city. Existing walkways along the river and through the city have been linked to the park, making the park a natural part of the fabric of the town. The result is a welcoming and popular activity and adventure park, combining challenging play, sound, light and time.

The new steel-clad roof under the bridge is a superstructure for the activities so that the park can retain it's function as an activity park, even during rainy weather. The columns of the bridge are used as a bearing design feature by introducing a climbing wall on one of them and exciting lighting features on the others. The park's hard surfaces reflect the bridge's form and appear as a broad axis that reinforces and enhances the perspective between the bridge columns and provides an orienting direction towards the river.

The skate park, skate bowl, outdoor stage and hockey court are ideal for versatile use and appeal to broad segments of the town's population. Towards the river there is a fountain with water jets that shoot up and invite smaller children to play. Three works of art are important attractions in the facility, and the characteristic "listening rings" have captivated many inquisitive and curious visitors.
