Allehelgensgate 2 has been Nordea's headquarters in Bergen for a number of years. The building was acquired by new owners in 2007, the SPG Group and Otium AS. The new owners, whowished twanted to upgrade the building both technically and in terms of design, in order to make the building more attractive and visible.
They wished to implement some measures to make the building more attractive and visible. The building has a strategic location in the centre of the city, with long views from the harbour and from some of the city's main thoroughfares. This gives the building a wonderful location, while it is also an important part of the urban landscape, with e.g. Bergen's Old Town Hall and Banko Rotto as two of its closest neighbours. Vågsallmenningen is located to the west, providing air, light and an area where people can congregate.
The solution chosenwas to build new top floors and use much of the building's existing structure and rhythm to give it with a coherent consistentappearance. The objective was that the building should have a tight and modern expression, and blend in, rather than competing with the surrounding buildings. Theiswas done refurbishment was carried out, consultingin consultation with the localbuilding authorities and the Cultural Heritage Management Office.
